144 Fundraiser for Ingersoll Habitat for Humanity Build

The Westminster Church in Thamesford is hoping to gather a large donation for the Habitat Build in Ingersoll

THAMESFORD - The Westminster United Church in Thamesford is hosting a unique fundraiser for the Ingersoll Habitat for Humanity build to help the Sweeney family.

They are doing a '144 Fundraiser' after the church service on Sunday.

CEO for Habitat for Humanity Heartland, Jeff Duncan, tells Heart FM the Sweeney family has three kids and have been dealing with some challenges and health issues and they really appreciate the support. "They have been a terrific family so far and will continue to be involved in the program volunteering lots, and supporting events and really being engaged in helping to support building their own home."

Duncan says the way the fundraiser works is the numbers 1 through 144 are put into a hat and participants draw the numbers after lunch. "If you get 1 you donate $1 if you get the 144 you donate $144 and you will receive a tax receipt. The nice thing is the maximum of what anyone could pay is $144." If all the numbers are pulled, they will make over $10 000 at this fundraiser.

Duncan spoke to Heart FM about how the Ingersoll build it progressing. "We've got out plans done, we are sort of ready to go. It is in for permit and that has been approved from what I understand. We are just waiting to get enough money, and then sort of a plan of how we are going to raise the rest. Our hope is to get started sometime in October and to have the home kind of completed sometime in the new year."
