25 Years of Service

Officers who have served the Friendly City for 25 years were recognized at a special WPS Board Meeting

WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police Services Board recognized four members this year who have served on the force for 25 years.

A service awards ceremony was held on Monday for Sergeant Don MacKenzie, Staff Sergeant Neil Butler, Constable Steve McEwen, and Deputy Chief Darren Sweazey. Chief Bill Renton tells Heart FM it is an amazing feat to reach 25 years and all members should be congratulated.

"A lot of changes of policing over the years and all four members are very good officers and are not only dedicated to the service here but the community at large. We do lean on these guys and their experience, we took on three new recruits last year so as people get older and we do transitions and new recruitments, you need some of these senior officers to mentor the younger people and keep that consistency in the ranks."

Renton says all four members are excellent officers who contribute on a daily basis to the betterment of the organization. He adds to have four members reach 25 years of service in the same year is kind of unique.

"I don't think it's odd but for a service of our size it is actually kind of unique, two of the officers actually started on the same day, Darren Sweazey and Steve McEwen both started on the same day back in July of 1990."
