42 Still Suspended

42 Oxford County students are still without the proper immunization records

OXFORD COUNTY - 42 Oxford County students remain suspended from school after they were unable to provide the proper paperwork to Public Health about their vaccination records.

"At the end of the day on Friday, so that was two days after the 225 students were suspended we were at 42.  It certainly is a big change from the 225 on Thursday morning, " said Supervisor in Health Protection with Oxford County Public Health Joanne Andrews.

She says it is imperative for students to be vaccinated.

"It is really important for them to be protected against the vaccine preventable diseases.  We know that  kids when they are at school it does create and environment where disease can spread easily from child to child, it can also protect those children that are unable to receive immunizations."

Although the number has decreased significantly Andrews wants that number of students suspended to be zero and explains to parents the process of how to achieve just that.

The students have 20 days to get their vaccinations but if they cannot show proof then another 20 day suspension will follow.  Andrews says the response has been great and that parents want to have there children back in school as quickly as possible.
