447 Hunter Street To Be Leased

The former Hunter St. art gallery building is going up for lease. City Council passed a motion Thursday night, directing city staff to prepare the needed information to put the property up for lease. The two level building is over 6000-square-feet. Council isn't willing to sell the property, as it's located next to the Woodstock Public Library, and would be an ideal location for a future expansion. "You have quite an impressive row of buildings in that area and that building is apart of that streetscape," commented Woodstock Mayor Pat Sobeski. "I think that's why it has the streetscape value as well as the heritage value." Repairs on the exterior are needed. and the Capital Budget for 2012 allows $72,000 for needed renovations. Before any lease can take place the building must be re-zoned. There isn't currently the need for an expansion at the library, but the matter will be looked at in 2013.
