The strategic plan is a guiding document for the museum, planning programs on all fronts for the next five years. Some of the areas addressed include optimizing the use of space and creating marketing awareness and support.

WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City council approved the strategic plan for the Woodstock Museum.

The plan is set until the year 2023.

Manager of Culture and Curator for the Woodstock Museum, Karen Houston says the plan looks at how they can utilize the facility moving forward.

"The strategic plan was something that we looked at with our advisory committee, our volunteers, our staff, also teachers who came in and helped do surveys about what was actually going on, all of these kind of things. So basically looking at how can we use our resources to the best and what kind of things do we want to see into the future. So the whole idea that it's starting in 2019 but it's starting from the beginning of the year, so we have changed around a lot of the exhibits in the space, but also changed at where our temporary gallery spaces are. And so part of it is already underway, utilizing space, how can we best get every square inch of the space in the building used but also looking into the future into marketing plans and things of that nature. And as to the idea of cost, some of this has already occurred in the sense that the council has already approved that the Art Gallery in the museum will have a joint person who's going to be doing communications. So the whole idea that if we've got a marketing plan coming, we now have staff that's on board to do that."

Other areas covered in the plan include providing compelling and relevant programming.

Mayor Trevor Birtch says the local museum has a lot to offer the community.

"All of these events are free at the museum, we have a new display on the second floor and you're free to go and check it out. I would encourage everyone no matter what generation you're from, whether you're young or old, to go out with family and friends, see what's going on at the museum. And things change from time to time, even though we're looking back at the past, each time you'll find something new when you go to the museum."

According to council's report, the strategic plan is a guiding document for the museum, planning programs on all fronts for the next five years. Council's report also states it will act as a road map for the Museum in guiding the allocation of staff and financial resources.
