78th Embro Highland Games

This Canada Day, you're invited to get in touch with your Scottish side.

EMBRO - The 78th annual Embro Highland Games will be taking over the Embro and Zorra Community Centre on Canada Day.

President of the Embro Highland Games committee Steve MacDonald explains why they put on this event every year. "We have been going non-stop since 1937. technically the first games were played in Embro in 1856, but there was an interruption in between. Our whole purpose of the Embro games is to preserve and celebrate the Scottish settlers who first opened this area up." "

MacDonald says it promises to be a great day for the entire family and they have events starting at 8 a.m and things will finish off when the final band comes on at 7:15 pm.

At the games they will have the Tug-O-War Championships, Runner's Road Race, British Car Show, Sheep Herding and Agility Dogs, Massed Pipe Bands and Competitions, Scottish Dancing, Ontario Heavy Events, Highland Cattle, Children's Programs and Live Celtic Music with the Shananigans. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for kids between 11-18 and free for anyone under 10 years old. You can find a complete event listing at embrohighlandgames.ca
