Air Quality Monitoring Results Disappoint MPP

Ernie Hardeman disappointed with results of MOE's air quality monitoring in Beachville, saying data is missing or incorrect.

(BEACHVILLE) - Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman is disappointed with the Ministry of Environment's released results of air quality monitoring in the Beachville area.

Hardeman tells Heart FM News that the Ministry seemed reluctant to reveal this information that has been requested for a long time, "because it does point out that they were not doing a very stellar job monitoring the air quality at all.  The audit itself shows times when the equipment wasn't working and they did absolutely nothing to encourage the owners of the equipment to make it work.  I think I was very disappointed to see how they had let a lot of this slide."

He's also displeased with the chance that some of the data may be incorrect.  "Some of the data could have been switched, that it was from a different station than it was supposed to be and if that was the case than it would be tremendously too high or too low.  So, tells me: don't have much faith in the document we have collected."  This is in addition to his concern that some stations reported mechanical errors, like dead batteries, and there was no follow up to show the tests were working.

Hardeman says the next step is a Freedom of Information request to obtain records from the two stations monitored by private companies. "We do hope that we get the rest of the information from the ministry and that we can then move forward to make sure that they pull up their socks and start monitoring, and that we can depend on the numbers that they're presenting."
