Appeals Filed in Harvey Woods Zone Change

A major project to convert a former factory into affordable housing in Woodstock could be about to hit a snag. Three appeals have been filed against the zone change for the planned development of the former Harvey Woods Building into 80-units of affordable housing. In this week's agenda to City Council, the city is put on notice that appeals have come forward from Woodstock citizens. However, Graham Cubitt with Homestead Christian Care, who are looking to convert the building into 80 apartment units, says they don't know what is being appealed. "I haven't seen what the actual appeals are against, I'm not sure what the actual issue is." But Cubitt says, "We are disappointed that Council?s planning approval has been appealed, but we look forward to working with the City to find solutions that support the social vibrancy and architectural heritage of our community."But Cubitt says, "We are disappointed that Council?s planning approval has been appealed, but we look forward to working with the City to find solutions that support the social vibrancy and architectural heritage of our community." City council will have to decide how to proceed before the Ontario Municipal Board. Cubitt believes the appeal would only delay the second phase of the project. "We are currently allowed to convert the building, according to the current zoning. It just would delay the phase 2." Phase 1 would see 54-units developed in the building. Phase 2 would take it from 54-units to 80. We'll have more on the story as it becomes available.
