13-year-old hit by car jaywalking, but mom defends her son's actions

For a 13-year-old Woodstock boy, it's a lesson learned, but his mom isn't ready to let it go.

Deric Bastien was struck by a car as he crossed Norwich Ave. near Alice St. last Thursday.  Deric says, "I don't think I'm ever going to jay walk again, and I'll cross at the lights."

Deric got away with four stitches to his arm, and a concussion.

He and his 11-year-old friend, Emmit were waiting to cross when they say they were waived across the street by a driver waiting to turn onto Alice.  A car in the outside lane hit Deric as he crossed.

His mom, Connie Bastien is upset the driver wasn't charged, claiming police did not interview the boys.  "The police haven't called us, I can't get the police report.  I'm hearing from other witnesses that she's at fault.  She's not being charged from what I hear from you guys, cause the police won't get back to me on anything and I'd like a courtesy call from them."

Police did not charge the driver, telling Heart FM the boys "darted" across the street.

Connie is angry that her son has taken the blame for the collision, as the story caused an uproar on Facebook as many faulted the boys for not crossing at a light.  "I want these people out there to know that are blaming an 11 and 13-year-old teenage boys for getting hit by a car when they were 1-foot off the curb...these are parents responding this way and if it was their child that wouldn't happen.  They were also once teenagers for god sakes."
