Beating the Heat

Oxford Public Health has a few tips to help you keep your cool this summer.

The first real heat wave of the summer has hit Oxford County and Public Health Officials are offering up a few tips on how to beat the heat.

Public Health Nurse Lorna Boratto says the number one thing is to stay hydrated. "We certainly do need to keep ourselves hydrated whenever we're out; whether it's in the garden, at the beach around the pool, or being involved in outdoor activities like cycling or running."

Boratto says if you do have to work outside right now to take plenty of breaks and make sure you are drinking enough water. Also wear a brimmed hat to help protect you from the sun and wear lots of sunscreen.

The heat can also be trouble for your pets and the sidewalk can cause damage to your dog's paw when the temperature is really hot outside.
Also make sure you never leave pets or children in your car for any length of time during the summer, cracking a window open will not help to disperse enough heat to make it a safe environment.
