Best in Oxford County Agriculture Awarded

Oxford County pride, and pride in agriculture was evident at last night's 13th Annual Agricultural Awards of Excellence. It was a sold out event put on by the Oxford County Federation of Agriculture. Karen Sample (Photo right) with 31st Line Strategic Communications won the Large Agribusiness Award. "We will win awards from time to time for creative or other things that are in our day to day business, but to win an award from an agricultural organization is really special." Taking home this year's Innovation Award was Alex McIntosh with McIntosh Embryo Transfer. "It's unbelievable, I can't even express it. It was something you just dream of and it was really something to get it, and I mean that whole-heartedly." Kimberly Walters with Walters Dinner Theatre was also honoured with her family picking up the Niche Award. "It's a huge honour for us, and it's something that we'll remember for many years to come." But the main honour of the night was reserved for John DeBruyn, who was named the inaugural inductee into the Oxford County Agricultural Hall of Fame. "I really am blessed. I just do what I like doing and I think to be recognized by my peers to have contributed, and maybe made a difference in some way is just phenomenal." DeBruyn will join previous winners of the Community Service Award in the new Hall of Fame that will be unveiled at the Oxford County Admin Building later this month.
