Bioretention Facility At Woodall Recreation Complex

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is installing a new bioretention facility or rain garden at the Woodall Recreation Development.

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority will be installing a large bioretention facility at the new Woodall Recreation Development.

They will be planting a rain garden at the complex as part of their Low Impact Development. Conservation Services Technician Alison Regehr says that Low Impact Development is an innovative approach to managing stormwater.

"The goal of LID is to reduce the rate and amount of water running off of a property. Less water goes into watercourses from storm sewers, helping to minimize flooding and stream bank erosion, and reducing the impact on water quality."

Regehr says this is the future of stormwater management.

"We hope that Low Impact Development becomes the new norm for stormwater management in the Upper Thames watershed."
