Celebrating Victoria

A midway, fastball tournament and parade are all part of the Friendly City's Victoria Day long weekend.

WOODSTOCK -- The City of Woodstock is set to celebrate the first, unofficial long weekend of the summer.

The 67th Annual Victoria Day Weekend, Celebrating Queen Victoria kicked off Thursday afternoon with the midway opening up in Southside Park.

Communications and Special Events Manager for the City of Woodstock, Brad Janssen highlights the activities planned for the festivities.  "A lot of activity, a fastball tournament at Southside Park put on by the Sweaburg Crush men's fastball team -- do a fabulous job, they've got 20 teams going to participate starting Saturday.  World's Finest Shows, midway at Southside Park, fun foods and all kinds of neat stuff like that.  And then of course, on Monday, the Victoria Day parade."

Janssen says the parade will leave the Woodstock Fairgrounds at 10:00 am sharp, head west down Dundas Street, turn onto Wellington Street and conclude at Southside Park.  "It's one of those parades that people grow to expect and love.  The marching bands make it and we have the Burlington Teen Tour Band which anchors the parade traditionally and they're just incredible.  We have a couple of steel drum bands, we have a tremendous variety of young and old."

The parade will be lead by the Ingersoll Pipe Band which will include 15 marching bands and roughly 60 entries.
