Charity Car Wash

A charity car wash will take over the Van Ave Fire Department this Saturday morning in memory of 15 year old Andrew Stoddart.

WOODSTOCK - A popular Facebook group called Woodstock News and Views has teamed up with the Woodstock Fire Department for a charity car wash in memory of 15 year old Andrew Stoddart.

This Saturday they will be at the Vansittart Fire Hall to raise money in memory of a local boy who died unexpectedly on a soccer field.  Administrator of Woodstock News and Views Bill O'Brien, explains what they are planning to do to ensure this never happens to anyone again playing a game they love.  "We decided to do a car wash for charity and decided the charity was going to be for the Stoddart AED Fund. It is close to home, when it was with the Fire Department, and the AED fund just made sense. I prefer a local charity helping out a local business."

On May 11th while playing soccer Andrew collapsed and his family believes that if an Automated External Defibrillator or AED was present the teenager would still be alive.  O'Brien knows that the money raised from the wash will stay within the community.  "This is the first of hopefully many charities we take part in, it's like the community giving back to the community. Every last penny is going to go back to the Stoddart's AED Fund to get these AED's to sports fields to hopefully avoid a tragedy that has happened to Andrew."

O'Brien tells Heart FM just who might take part on Saturday beginning at 10am on August 22nd.  "We're looking at probably whatever you feel like donating.  We are going to have the fire fighters there, I believe a couple of councillors have agreed to join to help out a little bit, it's going to be fun hopefully the weather is nice and hopefully we raise a few bucks for the Stoddart's."

It's supposed to be a sunny day on Saturday and all of the funds raised will go towards helping the Stoddart family with their mission to equip every sports field in the country with the life saving Automated Defibrillator Device. The charity car wash starts at 10 a.m. at the Fire Hall on Vansittart Ave.
