Check the Batteries!

The Woodstock Fire Department has received quite a few calls this month about CO alarms with faulty batteries.

WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Fire Department has been getting a number of calls this winter about carbon monoxide detectors.

Most of the time the calls are because of a faulty battery and the department is reminding everyone to change your batteries at least twice a year. Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods tells Heart FM it's important to to make sure those batteries are fresh.

"They change the smoke detector batteries perhaps, but people tend to forget to change the battery in the CO detector and people forget that they do have a battery back up in place on the plug in models. So unplug and make sure the battery is working. Now is a good time to put fresh batteries in as we have the heaters and furnaces going quite a bit."

Woods also reminds the public about the importance of keeping outside vents clear now that furnaces are heating homes again.

"We want to make sure that you keep your vents outside clear of ice and snow, get outside make sure they are clear so that the poisonous gasses can exit the homes and not seep back into the house."
