Christmas Miracle

10 year-old Tyler Brooks of London has opened his eyes

It's being called a "Christmas Miracle."

10 year-old Tyler Brooks of London has opened his eyes for the first time after he was critically injured by a hit and run driver October 25th.

Tyler, who was riding his bike on the sidewalk in London, was hit by 34 year-old Toby Van Lieshout of Ingersoll when he lost control, struck the young boy and then fled from the scene.

Even though Tyler was wearing a helmet, he suffered critical head injuries which left him in a coma until Monday night when he opened his eyes for the first time.

Tyler has a very long road to recovery ahead of him and according to Facebook posts, his family says there is no way to predict the long term outcome at this point.

Van Lieshout has served noticed that he intends to plead guilty and will be sentenced January 31, 2014.

His wife, 39 year-old Rebecca, has been charged with being an accessory after the fact, assaulting police, possession of a controlled substance, not having insurance and permitting an unlicensed person to drive her vehicle.  She is being held in custody at London's Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre.
