CMHA Program Aims to Help Build Daily Happiness

The CMHA's Live Life to the Full program will help people develop ways to deal with daily events and build confidence in their lives.

WOODSTOCK - The Canadian Mental Health Association in Woodstock is introducing a new program this spring - The Life Live to the Full program will help people learn how to deal with crisis and conflict in their daily lives.

Laura Spence, team leader for recovery and peer support, says this program will really benefit a variety of different people.

"It's based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy that is applicable to many people and many circumstances, depression, anxiety, stressors, and can even support those struggling with a temper or feeling overwhelmed."

The program will also teach people how to cope when they feel like things are going wrong in their lives as well as helping them boost their confidence and recognize when they are not well or in crisis.

Spence says since those in the program will work out of eight different booklets, there is a registration fee.

"There's a cost of $175 for the course. However, if individuals are experiencing financial struggles and are on a fixed income, they can apply to have the subsidy and the cost will dramatically decrease."

This program had a trial run and Spence tells Heart FM why they decided officially kick off the program this month.

"This winter the community seemed to have gone through a difficult time. We felt this was a good time for us to start the course up, in the spring when people are staring to get out more, starting to feel hopeful, wanting to make goals and move forward."

The program will be held from April 18th to May 23rd on Monday evenings from 6pm-8pm. It will be located at the CMHA Oxford building at 522 Peel Street.

Those who would like to register are asked to contact Mercedes Pitters at 519-539-8055 Ext. 211.
