A Tillsonburg company ordered to pay $55,000 following workplace accident

TILLSONBURG - A Tillsonburg company has been fined 55 thousand dollars after a worker sustained multiple fractures to their arm back in April of 2013.

According to the Ministry of Labour, the worker was tidying a machine when they noticed a piece of waste had found its way into a space between the underside of a belt and belt pulleys. When the worker reached for the waste, his hand was pulled in to the machine.

Autoneum Canada Ltd., a company that manufactures noise reduction and heat shield components for vehicles pleaded guilty to failing as an employer to ensure that an an in-running nip hazard or any part of a machine, device or thing that may endanger the safety of any worker was equipped with and guarded by a guard or other device that prevents access to the pinch point.

In addition to the fine, the court imposed a 25-per-cent victim fine surcharge as required by the Provincial Offences Act.
