Coping With Court Security Costs

Oxford County continues to look for ways to help the City of Woodstock bear the burden of court security costs.

OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council is still looking for a resolution when it comes to shared court security funding.

At their latest meeting Warden David Mayberry made a motion to form a Local Court Security Advisory Committee. This committee would have been in charge of determining the amount of tax dollars that would go toward security at the Woodstock Courthouse. Council voted against the motion 5-2.

Mayberry says right now the city of Woodstock must pay for all the security and prisoner transportation at the courthouse.

"There's no question that the Woodstock Police Services Board has a responsibility - the Woodstock Police Service have to provide security to the court. Should that be all on the backs of the city of Woodstock taxpayers? I don't think it should."

Mayberry believes council will come up with a different solution in the near future.

"We're trying to progress our way through it and I think we'll see in the next month or two probably further amendments or suggestions coming from council to resolve that issue."
