Deputy Chief Longworth Says 'So Long For Now'

It's a new beginning as Deputy Police Chief Longworth leaves Woodstock for the Forest City.

WOODSTOCK - Deputy Police Chief Daryl Longworth received a fitting sendoff as he will begin his new role in London.

Dozens packed the Children's Aid Services basement last night to say good-bye to Longworth who will take over the role as Deputy Police Chief in the Forest City. Before he cleans out his office he spoke with Heart FM about his most memorable moments in Woodstock. "Working with the people in the organization - I'm very proud of the people in the organization there is a lot of talent. We've had some difficult challenges with some high profile, very demanding, very challenging investigations. Working alongside people, troubleshooting and working out solutions to problems has always been a big part of the satisfaction of my job."

Longworth knows heading to a bigger city like London has it's own challenges. "It will certainly be different but policing is policing. London brings a unique set of circumstances, it is certainly a larger organization than Woodstock. It comes with its own set of violent crimes, human trafficking, all kinds of issues and concerns there. I'm very excited about some of the projects that we've got in place coming down the pipe and I look forward to getting there and starting to work with them to implement some of the changes."

Community leaders from various decades filled the basement to wish the 45 year old well as he makes this transition. Even though he may be leaving his post after 6 years Longworth doesn't want to treat this is as goodbye and has a special message to all those who helped him.  Just thank you I mean it is kind of humbling to have people show up like this. I just want to say thank you to the organization, thank you to the community for putting their trust in me, allowing me to lead them in such an important role in the community, and policing, and public safety and just maybe not good-bye but so long for now."

Longworth has been advancing through the force over the past 20 years and is looking forward in bringing a fresh set of eyes into London.
