Application to amend Oxford County's official plan to accommodate a 147 lot single detached home subdivision in East Zorra-Tavistock denied

OXFORD COUNTY -- County councillors denied an application seeking an official plan change Wednesday morning.

The application was put forward by property owners Lillian and Ronald Tayler and their planner Gordon Simpson of Diversified Development Group to develop 147 single detached homes just north of Woodstock on agricultural lands in East Zorra-Tavistock.

"The application itself was to essentially extend the settlement. When you do extend the settlement, what we call a comprehensive review must be undertaken, said the county's director of planning, Gord Hough.

"They haven't done really any of the work necessary to justify that expansion," Hough said.

The Tayler's application was first considered by Oxford councillors on April 9. At that time the application was deferred to the July 9 council meeting to allow the applicants time to complete the review.

The Taylers and Simpson and Clare Riepma of Riepma Consultants were all scheduled to appear at the meeting as delegates but they called Tuesday afternoon to cancel, Hough said.

Under the Ontario Planning Act, the applicants do not have an opportunity to appeal council's decision at the Ontario Municipal Board, Hough said.

"Short of making another application, and that would be another issue we'd have to look at, but as far as this application is concerned, this application is completed and finished," he said.
