Ex-NFL QB Visits Woodstock

Former Buffalo Bills Quarterback Bruce Mathison made a stop in Woodstock last night. The ex-NFL player was speaking at the Quality Hotel and Suites about a line of sports supplement products called, "Max International". Mathison was addressing potential distributors of the products that are said to boost Glutathione in the cells, improving stamina, focus and recovery. Mathison says sports science today is much different from his playing days. "It was a weird transition in the early 80's. A lot of guys were experimenting with steroids in the 70's and we kind of tried to knock that out of the NFL because of the long term effect. Today's athletes are so much different. They're very educated in nutrition, in sports sciences, they're very educated in exercise science in all the things that they do." Mathison played for the Bills, Charges and Seahawks, playing in 18 games. After several seasons of disappointment, many local Buffalo Bills fans are wondering if the glory days of the 90's will ever return. He played in 10 games for the Bills in 1985, the year before Jim Kelly burst onto the scene. Mathison wouldn't predict a strong year ahead for the Bills. He says it takes a number of stars aligning to have a winning team in today's NFL. "It takes a really good coaching staff, it takes good recruiting. You've gotta get guys in that locker room to gel together and believe in what they are doing and work as a unit, work as a team. You've gotta have good skill guys. It takes a lot. It's difficult. The players today, they compete so hard and it's tough to sometimes just to get them to all work together." The Bills haven't had a winning season since 2004.
