Farmers Keep Busy After a Warm and Dry Month

After a month of warm and dry weather all of the planting in the county is almost complete

OXFORD COUNTY - Farmers across Oxford County have gotten most of their planting done thanks to the warm dry weather we had this may. All of the corn in the region was in the ground as of last week and almost all of the soybeans have been planted as well.  Provincial Soybean specialist with the Ministry of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs Horst Bohner says they have a long way to go before Harvest. "So really the key thing for growers now is to scout, take a look at individual fields and see what weeds are coming through and take action, and of course as the season develops into June and July we will have to watch for insects." He adds when it comes to weeds every field is different.  Bohner says so far they have been slow coming but he expects the weeds will start to come in gangbusters once the weather really starts to heat up. Corn, Winter Wheat, Hay and Soybeans are the main producer crops planted in this region.
