Farmland For Lease

Three parcels of City owned agricultural land is up for rent.

WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock is taking bids on three pieces of agricultural land that's up for rent.

Economic Development Officer Brad Hammond says the properties are one the city holds for industrial development but are renting out for farm land until they are sold off. "The first property is located south of the 401 near the MTO sand silos -- as a reference point -- the second property is located in the CommerceWay Business Park just south of Parkinson Road and the third property is in the north end of the city just off of Devonshire."

Hammond says there are a few reasons for renting the land. "First reason is, we recognize land is a scarce commodity and we want to see it used for productive uses for as long as possible until it's needed for industrial development. The second reason we do it however is to help keep the weeds down and keep the property looking in a presentable manner."

He says when the City is showing the land to a potential purchasers it looks better when it has something other than weeds growing on it. "These particular properties -- I've been involved with them for about 11 or 12 years now -- we have leased them out for every year since then. Each year the property that is available for lease tends to get a little bit smaller as we do sell some land for industrial development but, as I said, we want to keep it productive for as long as possible."

Hammond says they have had wheat, corn, soybeans and cabbage grown in the soil in the past.

The forms for submitting a bid are available on the City's website.

The deadline for submissions is February 13.
