A day after he was hit with three charges by the RCMP, the mayor of London, says he will remain in office and fight to clear his name. With his lawyer, Gord Cudmore by his side this afternoon, Fontana proclaimed his innocence. "I'm innocent, I'm innocent. And I've been given a mandate by the people of London. I'm innocent of those charges and I intend to fulfill my responsibilities." Joe Fontana's accused of using federal government money for the deposit for his son's wedding reception in 2005. Fontana let his lawyer do the majority of the speaking for him, and Cudmore says the answers will come out in court. "It's $1700, and I told Mr. Fontana not to talk when they were alleging $20,000, I'm telling him not to talk now. The appropriate place to answer these questions are in a courtroom and that's where we are going to do it." Fontana, however, is stepping down from his role on the London Police Services Board.
