Fraud Charges Laid After St. Leonard's Community Services Investigation

A Tillsonburg man has been charged with fraud after a joint police investigation into spending at St. Leonard's Community Services.

A man from Tillsonburg has been arrested and charged in connection with an investigation into suspicious spending at a community services office.

The Hamilton Police Service Major Fraud Unit and the Brantford Police Service Criminal Investigation Section teamed up to look into the reports from St. Leonard's Community Services in Brantford, an organization providing addiction, mental health, and justice programs.

Brantford Police were first tipped off to the concerns in February of last year after an internal financial review by the organization. The Brantford Police Chief then reached out to Hamilton Police to lead the investigation.

On June 8, 63 year old William Sanderson was arrested and charged with Theft by Conversion, four counts Fraud over $5,000, Use Forged Documents, four counts of Fraud under $5,000, and Laundering Proceeds of Crime.

St. Leonard's is a publicly funded organization and officials fully cooperated throughout the investigation

The Brantford Police and Hamilton Police are asking anyone with additional information to contact Detective Mark Clausen of the Hamilton Police Service at (905) 546-4603.
