Free Flu Shot Clinics Run by County

Everyone over 6 months of age is encouraged to get a flu shot to protect themselves and those around them from the bug.

Oxford County Public Health in encouraging you to take advantage of their free flu clinics and protect yourself this winter.

Health Protection Supervisor Joanne Andrews says now is the chance to get your free flu shot. "So our flu clinics begin next week. Next Monday, with the first one starting in Woodstock at the Oxford Auditorium. And then we have Flu Clinics continuing over the next few weeks after that in various locations around the county."

Andrews says Public Health recommends everyone over six months of age get the shot. "And that protects them as well as those that they are in contact with against the flu. So it's important for not only all of us to protect ourselves against the flu but especially those that are in contact with people who are vulnerable to the flu. And that is the elderly and young children."

Although the flu seems like a minor annoyance to most people, Andrews tells us it can be much more serious. "We do see cases of the flu every winter and for most people it makes them very ill, they do not feel very well, they may miss work or school for up to a week or more. But for those who are vulnerable to the flu it can result in death."

The first three flu clinics are:

Monday, October 26th - Oxford Auditorium, Woodstock (3 p.m. - 7 p.m.)
Tuesday, October 27th - Tillsonburg Complex, Tillsonburg (3 p.m. - 7 p.m.)
Thursday, October 29th - Tavistock Public School, Tavistock (4 p.m - 6 p.m.)
