Goal Surpassed

OXFORD COUNTY - The Alzheimer Society of Oxford has already raised $14,000 more this year over last as part of their Walk for Memories.

Executive Director Shelley Green says it was a phenomenal year for the Alzheimer Walk for Memories starting last weekend in Tillsonburg and Ingersoll.

She says it's very hard for the organization to gauge how the Walks will do since they don't require registration beforehand. "When we had last weekend's walk in Tillsonburg and Ingersoll and when we experienced such a great weekend last weekend, we really felt that we had a fairly good chance of reaching our goal of $114,000 and then going into our Woodstock Walk this weekend, very quickly into the Walk we realized that there was a great chance that we would actually exceed our goals."

Green says the increase in success this year could be because they are serving more and more people each year. "We also have online fundraising now and those people who chose to use that form of fundraising generally are 25% more successful then if you use the conventional forms of fundraising for events like this through asking people in person and over the phone. We had a significant uptake in the number of people who were using online fundraising this year."

Green says there are now over 2000 people in the county living with Alzheimers.
