Hardeman Holds Head High After Byelections

Despite only winning one of five seats in last night's by-elections, Oxford's Conservative MPP is happy with the result. While Ernie Hardeman says he's disappointed they didn't win London West, he is happy about their win in Toronto. "These are all solid Liberal seats. They have been all Liberal seats for sometime and with very large pluralities. So the fact that we made a breakthrough in Toronto in Etobicoke-Lakeshore says that we accomplished a lot during this campaign." Hardeman points out the PC's actually led in overall votes between the three major parities across the board last night. The Conservatives garnered 54,368 votes, compared to the Liberals with 47,213 and NDP with 45,941. Hardeman also complains that the Liberals called the by-elections "in the dead of summer", leading to low voter turnout. The Liberals held onto two seats, in Toronto and Ottawa, and lost two seats to the NDP, and one to the Tories.
