Heaman Accepts New Job With The County

Oxford County has found a man bursting with energy to take over a new position.

A familiar face is moving into a new position with Oxford County as they continue to strive towards the 100% renewable goal.

Jay Heaman has been hired in the new role of Manager of Strategic Initiatives.

Heaman says he will be responsible for guiding the County to the renewable energy and zero waste goals. "Constantly thinking about ways we can become more sustainable from an energy perspective especially has been my background at a residential level, but then how do we start building it up to commercial, industrial, and agricultural."

He admits that the zero waste goal will be something new for him, but he is no stranger to energy concerns given his 28 year past with Woodstock Hydro.

The first order of business for Heaman is the Oxford’s Electric Vehicle Accessibility Plan. "We have eight Tesla Superchargers in Woodstock now. We were one of the first in Canada to have that system. It's a heavily used system. So how can we add more level two and level three stations in and around the county." He will be presenting a report to council on this issue at the February 10th meeting.

When it comes to leaving Woodstock Hydro, Heaman says this is not a goodbye, but rather a 'see you soon.' "I'm leaving an excellent team and the people in Woodstock and in the County of Oxford as they transition to Hydro One are in really good hands. There's a really good crew there. I think Woodstock Hydro, and Hydro One, and Erie Thames, and Tillsonburg Hydro will be important players in this renewable energy objective."
