Hitting the Road For Mental Health

Ride Don't Hide will bring people together in a show of solidarity while raising funds for local mental health projects.

WOODSTOCK - Registration is still open for the CMHA Oxford annual Ride Don't Hide event.

Over 10,000 cyclists are expected to take part this year at Ride Don't Hide Events across Canada and over 300 are anticipated to take part in Woodstock. Ride Don't Hide is the CMHA's signature fundraiser and it is also a way to get people talking about mental illness and try to erase some of those stigmas. Executive Director of CMHA Oxford Mike McMahon tells Heart FM they have a number of different routes available this year.

"We have an 8km route, a 15 km route, a 50km route, and for those spending a little more time on the road, the century ride which is 100 km or two times around the 50 km route."

McMahon says the money raised at this year's event will go towards supporting local mental health programs in Oxford County.

"The funds from Ride Don't Hide stay locally, so even though it is a National event, each branch runs a separate riding event where we are able to retain the funds locally."

He adds the goal of this event is to not only raise money but also erase the stigma surrounding mental illness.

"Ride Don't Hide is an opportunity to come together to fundraise as a community and say mental health is important to me, and it’s time to banish the stigma often associated with it. We are so thankful for the support from the community and those who have shared their personal stories of why mental health is important to them."

You can find out how to sign up for the family friendly event happening on June 25th in Woodstock online here.
