Kids are getting the chance to try out hocky and get brand new equipment.

TAVISTOCK -- Tavistock District Minor Hockey has been selected to host the Bauer/Hockey Canada First Shift Program.

The program provides players aged 6-10 the opportunity to try out the sport while receiving brand new equipment at a low cost.  The program is open to just 45 students who will be taught the basics of the sport once a week, over six weeks on a 4:1 ratio.

The cost of program is $199 and the new, professionally fitted equipment is theirs to keep.

Tavistock Minor Hockey is just one of 32 centres selected to host the program.

According to Hockey Canada's website, "the First Shift program is designed to ensure a positive experience for new to hockey families. This means breaking down the barriers that exist for many of these parents, and making them feel at home within our hockey community."
