Hodges Pond Enters Next Phase

Crews are ready to get to work on phase two of the Hodges Pond rehabilitation project.

NORWICH TOWNSHIP - Oxford County Council has given the green light to phase two of the Hodges Pond rehabilitation project.

Crews took the dam out in order to drain the pond in phase one. This allowed them to realign it with the Cedar Creek bed channel and restore it as a natural cold water system.

Warden David Mayberry talks about their plans for the next stage.

"Phase two is the replanting of that with trees and shrubs to kind of regenerate it in a way that would be similar to the way it was probably a couple hundred years ago."

This will help establish a natural habitat for plants and wildlife.

Warden David Mayberry explains how the project will be funded.

"The county will put in $10,000 in 2018 and $10,000 in 2019. That will be in addition to the money that Cowan has contributed."

The Cowan Foundation has donated $50,000 to the project.
