How To Stop A Dump Conference in Ingersoll This Weekend

Residents are invited to come out to the 'How to Stop A Dump' conference this weekend. Events include workshops, guest speakers, and a screening of Trashed.

INGERSOLL - Hundreds of people are expected to check out the How to Stop a Dump conference in Ingersoll this weekend.

The Oxford Coalition for Social Justice has organized the event as a way to show the County they want them to cancel the Southwest Landfill Proposal.
Things get started on Friday night as the doors open at 6 p.m. and Oxford People Against the Landfill will screen the documentary Trashed at 7p.m.

One of the organizers Bryan Smith says they will be having workshops, displays and guest speakers all weekend. He adds they have even invited Environment Minister Glen Murray to the weekend conference.

Smith says they are concerned with bringing other people's trash into our County and dumping it in a quarry that is so close to our water supply.

He says the science shows landfills are bad for our land, they are bad for our air, and they could have potentially devastating consequences to our drinking supply.

The conference is being held at the Princess Elizabeth Community Centre and Vedic Institute on William St. in Ingersoll.

Smith says they have lots planned for the Saturday workshops and encourages people who wish to attend to show up around 8 a.m. to register and the sessions will get started around 9 a.m.
