Improving Healthcare In Woodstock

The KMH Cardiology Centre has replaced their SPECT camera with a newer model.

WOODSTOCK - Patients in Woodstock will benefit from a new piece of technology at the KMH Cardiology Centre.

The facility installed a new SPECT camera on January 8th, which takes 3-D photos of their patients to examine their internal organs.

Medical Operations Manager, Daniel Nasser says the advanced technology prevents longer wait times and provides quality healthcare to their patients.

"A community like Woodstock where there's only the hospital and then the RIHF, in order to be able to provide those services to the patient, and in addition to that, to have staff cardiologist that could either see the patient on the very day once they get their scan, or soon after, it definitely increases the outcome and the services that we can provide through our healthcare to the patient."

The nuclear imaging camera replaced an older model which took one month to install. It has a shelf life of over ten years.

Since they were installing a newer camera, Nasser said the project took a little longer to finish.

"If it was a camera that was only maybe two to three years old that we were replacing, perhaps the flooring would have had the proper condwidth, trenching and the necessary design. But sometimes getting a new whole camera also has different floor layouts."

Since the newer model was installed, Nasser says the reaction has been positive.

"We've always had positive feedback from the patients, and given they've seen the new camera and especially that it is within their community, we've had a tremendous, positive response from everybody."
