ITOPA's Run For Your Wife Hits The Stage

Submitted

The comedy will begin its run next Friday night and go until February 23rd.

INGERSOLL - The Ingersoll Theatre's latest production is set to hit the stage next week.

Opening on Valentine's Day, Run for Your Wife is a British farce and tells the story about a London cab driver who has two wives in two different counties and keeps them a part from each other.

Publicity Director for the ITOPA  Jim Kontepetski explains what makes a farce unique.

"It's often based on a set of ridiculous circumstances and a understanding or two, and people are misinterpreting what somebody else is telling them. And it's very high energy and there's a lot of coming and going and a lot of people making incorrect assumptions and almost getting caught in a bunch of different things, and how a story unfolds. And usually the humour comes from the ridiculous situations that the characters find themselves in."

Kontepetski says they've taken the script that was written in the 1980s, which contains some racy humour.

"We have to ask our audience to understand that the jokes that were written, were written for that time. I'm pretty sure that they're going to be okay with that. As well the director, who is Jenna Hook, and the actors who are delivering the content, well they have to be sensitive to the fact that times are a little bit different now and that when they present the humour maybe they don't do it in quite the same way that it would have been done 30 years ago, just so that they're more sensitive to how times have changed. So I know they have certainly taken all that into consideration but they still want to deliver the lines and deliver the jokes and deliver the dialogue the way it was written. They just want to do it in a way that won't be over the top and would potentially offend somebody."

Hook directed the comedy Flaming Idiots at the ITOPA last April and she is also a part of the theatre's Introduction To Improv class.

The cast have been in rehearsals since December.

Hook says casting the right people in the right roles was key.

"I'm really happy with how everything is going, and ecstatic with the cast. It’s been nice to see a few new faces, and they have worked really well together."

The show begins its run on Valentine's Day at 7:30 pm. It'll be playing on the 15th, 16th and 17th and then from the 20th -23rd. The matinees on the 16th, 22nd and 23rd will be at 2:00 pm. A stair lift and hearing assist system will also be available to patrons.

Tickets are now on sale and you can purchase them online or call the box office at 519-485-3070.
