Kovachik Honoured

Woodstock Mayor Pat Sobeski and NHL ref Brad Kovachik

Woodstock native and NHL ref Brad Kovachik gets a key to the city

WOODSTOCK- Woodstock City Council honored another Woodstock native with a key to the city.

This time it was NHL official Brad Kovachik who was the recipient of the honor for his nearly two decades of officiating.

It started at the old Perry Street Arena where Kovachik cut his skates reffing tyke games.

"I've been refereeing ever since I was 12 years old and so I worked my way up and I had a lot of good friends that were referees that taught me the right way of doing things and it kind of snowballed and here I am today."

Kovachik has officiated over 11 hundred regular season NHL games and one Olympics.

"The highlight (of my career) was this year, definitely working the Stanley Cup finals, it's the upper echelon our career-- thats where you want to get to every year and this was my first one after 17 years and it took a while to get there but it was worth it and hopefully it's not the last one."

Kovachik joined L.A Kings and Woodstock native Jake Muzzin on the ice at the Stanley Cup finals and now both have Keys to the City.
