Landfill Concerns

Ministry of Environment appears to have concerns over surface water and noise when it comes to Walker's Terms of Reference document

It seems the Ministry of Environment has some serious concerns about Walker Environmental's landfill plans in Oxford County.

The Ministry of Environment recently sent Walker comments on their Terms of Reference.

In their comments, the MOE noted it was not possible for the surface water reviewer to confirm the Environmental Assessment would adequately address surface water concerns and the noise reviewer said the issue of the assessment of cumulative noise effects from the landfill and operational quarry and lime plant remain unresolved.

Walker has asked for extra time to respond to the Ministry's concerns, with the time out ending March 31.

Meanwhile a request for a third time out may be on the horizon for Walker Environmental.

The company first asked the Ministry of Environment for a time out December 9 to revise their Terms of Reference after receiving the feedback from the Ministry. A second, eight week time out was requested January 24.

In a letter to Oxford People Against the Landfill Chairperson Steve McSwiggan, Walker's Director of Strategic Growth, Darren Fry indicated Walker would likely ask for a third, eight week time out at the end of March.
