Library Business Plan

The Oxford County Library will put forth their 2015 Business Plan and Budget for Council debate Wednesday.

OXFORD COUNTY - The popularity of the new Tillsonburg Library branch is contributing to an increased ask for levy dollars from County Council.

Council will be asked to approve the library's 2015 Business Plan and Budget Wednesday which could add $3.4 million to the tax levy for all Oxford County municipalities except Woodstock, who have their own board.

Warden David Mayberry says the additional fund are required for three reasons.

Mayberry says the library's budget is up considerably this year in the levy portion. "In fact it's about a 14 percent increase but in reality it's only about 4.2 -- I think -- percent increase in the actual dollars spent. What I think is interesting is that while the budget only increases in just over 4 percent in actual dollars, it actually represents 5 percent more labour in providing more services."

"What we have found over the last year is that as we upgraded the Tillsonburg Library and brought it into the County system, the usage has increased so much that we actually need more staff which is actually a good news story. Not that upping taxes is ever a good news story but the fact that there is so much more use down there that people have that much demand for the service you are providing, it is good news."

The budget and business plan includes a $26,000 capital request as well as a staff increase of 1.7 roles to help respond to increased demand at the new Tillsonburg branch.

Council will discuss the issue Wednesday night starting at 7:00 pm in Council Chambers.
