Local Dart Player Reaches Top 8 in Las Vegas

A local dart player from Princeton managed to crack the top 8 at the U.S. Dart Masters in Las Vegas.

PRINCETON - A semi professional dart player from Princeton managed to crack the top 8 at the U.S. Dart Masters in Las Vegas.

Shawn Brenneman competed against 180 players to crack the top 8 for a chance to make the World Championships in England. He eventually fell short in the first round of the playoffs.

Brenneman tells Heart FM it was an amazing experience in Las Vegas.

"So I got to be on stage in front of a roaring crowd, the camera's and the big lights, all the music and the hype. It was an incredible experience, words really can't describe how it felt to walk down that big professional stage and be on tv."

Brenneman has had some sponsorship offers from some dart companies since his Vegas showing and is hoping to make it to that next level and kind of set up a schedule.

"I think the next step is I have had a couple of sponsorship offers from dart companies, so I think it's kind of looking at where do I want to take this next.  I need to work with my wife and see what's going to allow me to go out there and play and still be able to work full time here but get out and be able to play a little more often, probably with the success I have had and just try to take it to the next level."

He adds this is a game he has been playing since he was a kid and is amazed at how far it has taken him.

"It was a family game growing up, my mom and dad, my brother, sister and all of our aunts, uncles and cousins, we all played as a family. So that was kind of our weekends and nights when we got together, it was just a fun game. Eventually I started to play Ontario darts on a semi professional level and then went on to travel to the US at tournaments, I represented Canada twice in England, years ago. I was a previous Canadian Open champion, so I have travelled to tournaments all over North America and I have been to England several times."

Brenneman says it really is a great game and he encourages people to get out more and give it a try at your local pub, the legion or the Moose Lodge in Woodstock.
