Low Water In Oxford

The Grand River Conservation Authority has issued a Level 1 low water condition.

BLANDFORD BLENHEIM TOWNSHIP - Residents in Blandford Blenheim are being asked to cut back on their outdoor water usage.

Deborah Goudreau, Oxford's Manager of Water and Wastewater Services says the Grand River Conservation Authority has issued a Level 1 low water condition.

"The county of Oxford has a number of drinking water wells in the Grand River Conservation Authority's limits so we are subject to these notices. It affects the residents of the serviced villages in Blandford Blenheim so Plattsville, Drumbo, Princeton and Bright."

The GRCA issues these alerts when the water level in the local streams and rivers is below a certain threshold, which could indicate draught conditions.

Goudreau says you should cut back on unnecessary water usage, adding you should only have to water your grass once a week.

"Just really focus on those sensitive flowers, gardens or trees that actually do suffer in draught conditions and try to avoid usages such as car washing."

The Oxford County website offers a real time tracker that will show you the status of the wells in your area.
