MacKenzie Promises to Keep Pushing Liberals on McClintic

Local MP Dave Mackenzie says having Tori Stafford's killer back in the news has evoked a lot of emotions in his riding of Oxford County.

WOODSTOCK - A Conservative Motion that would have put Terri Lynne McClintic back behind bars has been defeated in the House of Commons.

The motion lost with a vote of 82-200 with the NDP and Liberals voting against it. It called on the Liberal government to condemn and reverse the transfer of a convicted murderer to an Indigenous healing lodge.

The Tories have been attacking the Liberals every day since it was revealed that Terri-Lynne McClintic was moved from a medium-security prison in Ontario to Okimaw Ochi Healing Lodge in Saskatchewan.

Local MP Dave Mackenzie says this story has evoked a lot emotions in his Oxford County Riding.

"People didn't want to be reminded of this, they wanted to be satisfied that she had been sentenced to 25 years in jail and that's what would occur, they don't have that same confidence. One little story I will tell, I had one man call me and say Dave, I am a mild mannered accountant and when I heard this, I almost ripped the steering wheel out of my car and you know what that is the kind of emotion that this evokes."

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the Conservatives ambulance chasing politicians in the Commons yesterday. MacKenzie says the comment was ridiculous and he is upset that Trudeau didn't even stick around for the vote.

"I don't know what he is trying to do and why he is taking the approach that he is, all they needed to do way back was say, we will correct the problem, instead when the solicitor General says she is at the healing lodge to correct her bad practices. Well you and I know those bad practices are far more than bad practices, she is a brutal killer and she deserves to be in prison, not a healing lodge. I'm not opposed to healing lodges, I've been to one and I think they serve a purpose but I don't think the purpose is to put somebody in there who is guilty of such a brutal crime and they have 13 years to go before they are even eligible for parole."
