Maple Syrup Standardized Labels will start in 2016

With maple syrup season in the rear view mirror, local producers are starting to get ready for the new standardized labels which will start in 2016.

With maple syrup season in the rear view mirror, local producers are starting to get ready for the new standardized labels which will start in 2016.
Ontario is joining the rest of North America in having the new labels in place for next year's sugar season.
Export Sales Manager at Jakeman's Maple Syrup in Beachville Chad Jakeman tells Heart FM they are not overly excited about the new regulations as they will now have to make new labels for over 97 different products which will prove to be costly.
He adds they are giving producers plenty of time to make the switch and it is good news for consumers who will have a better idea of what they are buying.
The idea is to combine the regions into one grading system which will have colour and taste descriptors.
Jakeman says most people prefer a darker maple syrup and the new labels will help consumers find the right syrup for their taste.
