Mark Schadenberg Named Acting Mayor Of Woodstock

Submitted

Schadenberg was elected by Woodstock City council and he will take over the role from councillor Jerry Acchione.

WOODSTOCK - Councillor Mark Schadenberg was appointed as acting Mayor of Woodstock.

He was selected by Woodstock City council during their meeting on Thursday.

Schadenberg says he's honoured to take over the position from Jerry Acchione, who held the role last year.

"It'd be a great privilege to represent the people when the Mayor is not able to attend a certain event and also to be able to represent city council itself, they had thought enough of me to nominate me for this position."

The City of Woodstock rotates acting mayors every year and they are chosen by council.

He will attend public events and council meetings in the absence of Mayor Trevor Birtch.

Mayor Birtch says Schadenberg brings a wealth of experience and is active in the community.

"He was very active in community groups such as the Cancer Relay For Life and Woodstock Committees such as the Recreation Committee. He's shared a number of committees so I see tonight with the nomination from his fellow councillors, I see that as a win for him."

He adds Schadenberg has gained his fellow councillors' trust seeing his abilities in the past and on this first year on council.
