Midas kicks off their first 'Drive Out Hunger' campaign

One local business is starting up a new initiative to help Operation Sharing's Food for Friends Program.

WOODSTOCK - One local business is starting up a new initiative to help Operation Sharing's Food for Friends Program.

Midas has kicked off their first Drive Out Hunger Campaign. Executive Director of Operation Sharing Stephen Giuliano says the Owners of Midas, Curtis and Barb Langford, said they wanted to help people in our community.

"They contacted me on their own and asked if we would like it if they would begin to promote our Food for Friends program through their business by asking customers to help with the cause."

Curtis Langford says they actually got the idea from dealers in the United States who were sending home care packages and donating to local food banks.

"We've decided to do it up in our shop here and we decided the best fit in town would be the Food for Friends program that Steve Giuliano and Operation Sharing have. So that's the route we're going in. Our goal is to raise $10 000 a year to go toward that program."

After one weekend of collecting donations, they are already up to $2,169. One dollar from every oil change and emissions test will be donated to the cause. They will also be putting forth a percentage of their proceeds.

Giuliano says the importance of the Food for Friends program cannot be stressed enough.

"The Food card program is basically, there to support those less fortunate in dignified way with nutritious foods and is integrative in terms of letting people shop with one another.
