More Funds for OSPCA

Extra funding would create squad to investigate puppy and kitten mills

More money is coming to help animal welfare in the province.

Today, Minister of Community Safety, Madeleine Meilleur, announced $5.5 million a year to help crack down on puppy and kitten mills and provide more inspections of zoos and aquariums.

The money will include annual funding for the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.  That will allow the OSPCA to create a centralized dispatch service, and create a team of investigators to look specifically into shutting down  puppy and kitten mills.

The OSPCA has long called for increased funding to help them not only investigate, but to process paperwork and prosecute cases more effectively.
