More Vehicle Break Ins in Tillsonburg

Tillsonburg has noticed a huge spike in the number of vehicle entries this month.

TILLSONBURG - Several Tillsonburg residents were shocked to find their cars entered in the past few week.

OPP Constable Stacy Culbert reminds everyone to make sure they are locking their vehicles. "So we've received numerous reports in some certain areas in Tillsonburg including Magnolia Drive, the Edgewood drive, and Peach Street area - so anywhere between the 15th of January and the 21st of January we've had over a dozen vehicles that have been entered."

Culbert says the thieves rooted through glove boxes and were able to take some items from the vehicles. "Certainly change is always a target - whatever is there and available for them to take they will take. So in these numerous cases we've had sunglasses taken which we all know can be kind of expensive and costly, several gift cards taken that had been left in the vehicles, and a couple wallets as well with all their identification in there."

As a result of these reports residents might notice a few more cruisers in the area. "Patrols have already been ramped up in the Tillsonburg area, specifically in the targeted areas," Culbert says. "So hopefully we can dissuade the thieves from attending back in those areas or even catch them. So again, reminding the public to keep us informed and give us a call and we'll come and check it out if they see anything suspicious."

Citizens can call the detachment to report suspicious activity, or use the Citizen Self Reporting website.
