Muzzin Family Thrilled Jake is Coming Home

Jake Muzzin's parents are making the trip to Detroit on Friday night to catch their son's first game with his favourite hockey team growing up.

WOODSTOCK - The Friendly City is buzzing today with news that Hometown Hero Jake Muzzin is joining the Maple Leafs.

The Leafs pulled off the trade last night sending a 1st round pick and two prospects to the L.A. Kings for Muzzin. Muzzin still has plenty of family living in Woodstock and Oxford County. Both his parents and grandparents still live in the City, along with several cousins, aunts and uncles.

Jake's Father Ed Muzzin says his son has been dreaming of this day since he was a little kid.

"When he was younger, him and his best friend on his hockey team Nate Geerklinks, they used to have dreams about playing side by side for the Maple Leafs and I'm glad that this finally came true for him."

Jake's Mother Judy Muzzin says Jake didn't get his love of the Maple Leafs from his father.

"He didn't get it from Ed, that's for sure, Ed is a big Montreal Canadians fan. He was actually disappointed when he got his first pair of hockey socks because they were red and blue and they weren't Maple Leaf blue."

Ed Muzzin says he is now a Leafs fan.

"(laughing) Yeah, I'm going to be a forced Maple Leaf fan."

Both parents are thrilled to have their son playing so close to home and Judy says they are really excited to be able to watch his games in the Eastern Time Zone.

"In that regard it's great and a lot of his family will be able to watch him more, it will be a lot easier for his grandparents to watch all the games."

The Muzzin's say they expect Jake will be in Toronto tomorrow and will likely skate with the Leafs tomorrow and they are heading to Detroit on Friday night to catch his first game. Ed Muzzin says Jake called them right away when he found out he was traded.

"He phoned us right after he talked to Blakey (Rob Blake) we were the first people he told right after he found out."

Ed Muzzin says that while Jake is excited to come home, he will miss his friends in L.A.

"He says that it's part of the game, he leaves behind some great friends in L.A., he's been there 7 years, so there is quite a good group of them, so that he is a little disappointed about but he is very happy to come to Toronto and says Toronto is a great team, that's what he told me."
