New Committee to Talk Trash

Oxford County's garbage is going under the microscope. A new committee has been formed to take a comprehensive look at all aspects of waste collection in the County. The Integrated Waste Management Committee will be chaired by Warden Don McKay, and will feature input from all of Oxford's municipalities. It could set the stage for another increase in the price of bag tags in 2013. Public Works Director Rob Walton says a series of meeting will determine what happens in the next 5-10-years. "The Integrated Waste Management Committee is supposed to be completed near the end of 2012. We've got 11-months to do the work we need to do here." Previous staff reports to council indicated a $2.00 or $2.25 bag tag is needed for a more sustainable system. This has been suggested ever since the price of recycling crashed to record lows in 2008, and haven't recovered to pre-recession levels.
