The Oxford Oral Health Access Initiative has received a $150,000 Community Investment Grant.

OXFORD COUNTY - The Oxford Oral Health Access Initiative is getting ready to introduce a new dental health clinic, thanks to a $150,000 Community Investment Grant from Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada.

The clinic will operate out of the Woodstock and Area Community Health Centre and it will serve low income adults.

Project Manager Jo-Anne Orton says it will be entirely volunteer run.

"Dentist, hygienists and assistants are coming forward saying that they value this, they want to see this happen and they will be volunteering their time to make sure people of low income have the dental care that they require."

Orton adds transportation will be available so everyone in Oxford can have access to the clinic once it opens up this spring.

"Between the Community Health Centre's Gus the Bus, the Salvation Army's Rav4 and other partners that have come forward we really working together to make sure that transportation is not an issue for people in dental need."

Over 1,500 people visited Oxford County emergency rooms for tooth pain or infection in 2015. About 30 percent of Oxford residents have also not been to a dentist in over a year due to the cost.
